    Tornado’s

    2009 - 09.29

So, Last night I had the most vivid dream. I was hanging out with friends on a front porch and I saw a tornado form in front of my eyes. I saw the molecules and atoms and all the dust and debri begin to come toward me…. and then right as it was about to get to the place where I was at, it disappeared.

Then the dream turned to everyone running to their cars to try and get out of the city and tornadoes began to form all around. First off, this is not a good way to start your morning. This dream really freaked me out. So what does one do when they have questions about mundane things?….. They Google it!

SO this is what Google has to say about the meaning in dreaming of tornadoes:

Tornado’s may symbolize lots of things. They may link to bad things that are about to happen and problems that you are anticipating.

QUESTIONS to help you make associations(pick the one that makes most sense to you)
    - What issue yesterday sent your mind into a spin?
    - Have you been very stressed recently?
    - What crisis are you planning for in the near future?
    - Are there many changes in your life right now?

KEY WORDS : Uncertain, unforeseen, changes, weather forecast, stress(write down some quotes that capture your key feelings on issues that have been dominating your mind. Then see if any of these words could appear in those quotes)

KEY PHRASES(Pick a quote which captures your feelings right now. Think especially of the day before the dream) :
    - “uncertain about the future”
    - “coping with all these changes in my life”
    - “I am having to come to terms with the changes in my life”
    - “I cannot relax”
    - “been told so many things at one time – simply bombarded with too much information”
    - “I simply did not expect that”
    - “I am starting to feel ill”
    - “yesterdays weather forecast”

Tornado’s may symbolize your own uncertainties about the future. That can be linked to major changes taking place in your life. E.g.

So the question is… What is brewing in my life to cause insecurities? Should I be cautious about work? my relationship? my friends? Ugh!

What do you think? Are dreams just bundles up emotions that aren’t meant to make sense?

9/11- Do you remember where you were 8 years ago?

    2009 - 09.11

I remember walking to my car early in the morning because I had an 8 am class at San Antonio College. On the way to my car, the apartment complex maintenance guy asked me if I had heard about what happened in New York. I had no idea what he was talking about and since I was half asleep, I disregarded his comment.

On my way to class, there was no music playing on the radio. No funny talk show host trying to wake me up as I drove. All I could hear on the radio was that 2 planes had crashed into the World Trade Center Towers. I couldn’t even grasp what that meant….. I was a naive 19 year old girl that did not know anything in regards to the world of government and politics. All i knew is that I had the right to vote, and that was a right I exercised by following my parents lead. But now… everything was different.

By the time I got to school, there were police everywhere. They were asking us to go home because all classes were canceled for the day and there was concern for everyone’s safety. SAC, was a public government school and apparently all government buildings were being evacuated as a precaution. I ended up driving to a friends apartment because I did not have cable at my own place. When I got there, five of my college buddies were all gathered in front of the television watching the events as they unfolded.

All I could do was cry. It was soooo amazing how much it hurt to see innocent men, women and children suffer as the debris came down from the buildings. I remember my guy friends claiming that they were going to enlist in the armed forces and kill whoever had done this to our country. Everyone was so GUNGHO-American all of a sudden. Its a tragedy to believe that it takes an event like 9/11 to make you realize how proud you are of your country, your people, your president, your military, etc….

“Freedom itself was attacked this morning by a faceless coward. Freedom will be defended!” by President George W. Bush, September 11, 2001.

For all the lives lost 8 years ago today. I pray for your families.

    xoxo,

    Sophie

“Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children. ” by President George W. Bush.

    FINALLY, Rain in San Antonio!

    Friendships

    2009 - 09.10

I am sure everyone has at one point received the email describing how friendships are defined by a reason a season or a lifetime. Every time I read this article I think it seems to apply to different people in my life. I believe that the friendships you choose to keep throughout your life are the ones that help define you as a person.

Friends are here to challenge your growth, to support you, to teach you, to become a part of you.

    One Head Light

    2009 - 09.03

Its funny how a song or quote can take you back to far far place in your head and trigger a memory. Here I am at work listening to Pandora and The Wallflowers, “One Head Light” starts to play. This song reminds me of my dad’s little white truck. A 2 door single cab Toyota truck.  I can’t remember the year or the model to save my life though.

I learned to drive in this truck about the age of 13 and it had a broken head light so we could only drive it during the day… hence “one head light”.  This song took me pack to a place I haven’t been to in a while….. down memory lane.

When you think about all of the mischievous things you did as a child, its a wonder we even make it to adulthood!!! I used to jump off the roof  “for fun”. Who does that?! Apparently, I did. Running around in the rain, barefoot without a care in the world. These were the days of our lives. Where we had no worries.

    No Mortgage payments

    No Car payments

    No student loans

    No broken hearts

    No job stresses

We were in such a hurry to grow up and for what? Everything listed above? No thank you!!! Our parents would tell us to enjoy being young, because this was a time of our lives. But as children/teenagers when do you actually listen to your parents? NEVER! All we can think about is being old enough to drive, get into a rated R movie, be able to buy cigarettes, etc… Being 18 was a huge deal for us…why??? No, sorry its not because we were finally old enough to vote. It was because we could FINALLY get into a club! Meet people outside of your highschool social scene, enter college life and the beginning of our independence YAY!

Then reality hits. Along with college, comes a lot of new stress, accruing student loans… living expenses… and TRUE broken hearts. The ones where you feel like you can’t breathe and your world falls apart. Who do you turn to with all of these new live changing obstacles?????

Mom and Dad. Who knew they would actually know something that can be of use to you??? Makes me think what I would have done differently if I had actually taken to heart everything my parents told me at that time.

I know I went off in a tangent here. Listening to this one song took me back on a little memory vacation. I just want to send a big hug to my parents, thanks for putting up with me as a child… as a “know it all” teenager… and as a stubborn woman in adulthood.

    I love you both.

    xoxo,

    Sophie

Many of the soldiers injured in Iraq are heroes who have paid dearly for their service. Now, some of the Army’s wounded warriors are learning new ways to stay physically fit.

Reclaiming their lives is no easy task for the men and women rehabilitating at Brooke Army Medical Center. This week, they visited a San Antonio gym, Alamo Crossfit at 14381 Blanco Road, to get certified as trainers and forge a fit future.

28-year-old Nathan Hunt of North Carolina lost both legs in Iraq in May of last year. “Me and my brothers, we’re all black belts in martial arts and kickboxers, so I grew up being physically fit,” Hunt said. “I’d like to stay that way.”

“Crossfit” training doesn’t require a lot of fancy machinery or weights. The student are taught how to use their own body weight and, as the instructors say, “productively apply force.” It’s an approach that pushes them to their limits, most of them less than a year out from traumatic injuries.

Jonathon Sandoval still sports a cage around his shattered leg. He’s going to take what he learned this week back home to Oklahoma.

“I’ve got some friends along with family that want to get back into shape,” Sandoval said. “So this will help me toward that. Plus I can use it for my own physical therapy.”

Fitness is a way of life in the military. The idea is that reclaiming that aspect of their lives after injury helps soldiers regain mobility, athleticism and confidence.

“They don’t want sympathy,” said Rick Martinez, RN, the owner of Alamo Crossfit. “They’re young and they have lost, literally sometimes, a piece of them that we can see and a piece that we can’t see. What they want is to be able to regain what they’ve lost.”

About two dozen soldiers recovering at BAMC became certified Crossfit trainers this week. They’ll take their skills back to other wounded warriors, and ultimately, home to their communities across the United States.
