    Grocery Shopping

    2009 - 12.29

After I finished my Crossfit WOD:Cindy, I gathered some information from my coaches on the upcoming Paleo Challenge. They stated that it was to start on January 9th for a 7 week term. The nutrition seminar would be kicking it off that day as well as all of the before pictures to be taken. With this information I decided to start trying out the diet with the 80/20 rule before the official challenge begins.

At the grocery store, I spent the majority of my time in the produce section. I bought strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, apples, bananas, avocados, tomatoes, cucumbers, limes, carrots, celery and lettuce. Then I went and got some fish, chicken breasts, pork tenderloins, turkey fillets and steaks. I got pecans and almonds to snack on as well as some eggs for breakfast. It all looked so pretty, I wanted to take a picture!

I did buy some non paleo foods for the boyfriend. I got him vanilla wafers, milk, orange juice and chips. But that was it!! Everything else was Paleo and let me tell you something…. eating healthy is expensive!!! But well worth it in the end. When I got home I cooked my huney and I a nice Paleo friendly dinner- I baked some Orange Roughy Fillets seasoned with Mrs. Dash (no Salt), cucumbers marinated with lime juice, sliced bananas and strawberries with crushed almonds for dessert. I added an avocado for myself since I love them!
Everything tasted delicious! I didn’t make it to the strawberry banana concoction because I was too full. All in all I had a yummy meal.

So far this morning I ate a banana and a bowl of berries for breakfast. Its been almost 2 hours and I am hungry again….. what is a girl to do?? Anyways! I will keep you guys posted… whoever you may be that’s reading this =)

    Getting Informed

    2009 - 12.28

So with all this Christmas food around and all of the yummy cravings, I have decided to get informed on my upcoming diet before going into it cold turkey. I got a gift card to Barnes and Nobles this Christmas which was AWESOME. I knew exactly what kind of book I wanted when I saw the gift card…. a Paleo Cook Book! So I go to Barnes and Nobles looking for one and they are sold out =( The Customer Service rep was super helpful… I am not sure if he had a little crush on me or he simply wanted to be away from the Help Desk, but either way he went out of his way to help me find something that would be of use to me.

I ended up finding the last book on Paleo available- “The Paleo Diet for Athletes” its pretty neat, I am on Chapter 1 right now learning about the essentials. The book has 90 recipes in it which I am sure I will make use of. But you know what I noticed?? There is no Cook Book dedicated to the Paleo Diet!!! This is nuts! I bet it would sell like crazy if there was one out there. Amazon was very limited in its search…. there were no Paleo COOK BOOK specific type books full of only recipes.

Anyways, I am really excited to start this new venture. I still have to meet with my Crossfit coach to ge the details of the upcoming challenge. Once I have them I will make sure to post them for you to see. I will track my progress and keep you guys posted… I am hoping some one will join me in this endeavor so I am not totally alone in my suffering.

    Paleo Challenge

    2009 - 12.18

I was looking at photos of last Memorial weekend and DAMN I looked good =P I am not being cocky or confident, its simply an observation that I was at my healthiest, happiest, and best shape ever.

Why is it that during the fall/winter season we lose some of our motivation? Is it the weather? The fact that we can bundle up with layers of clothes and no one will notice? The fact that I am in a relationship? Who knows. All I do know is that for me, I enjoy long distant runs. I like running at my pace, where I can clear my head or chat with a friends all while doing something that is great for my body. But the second the weather turns a tad bit cold, I hate it! The cold air in my lungs, the runny and red nose when I try to breathe, besides the darkness coming sooner makes it more dangerous. Blah! I can’t wait for Spring =)

This year I decided not to take as long of a hiatus. I went back to Crossfit about 3 weeks ago and am thinking about joining their annual Paleo challenge at the beginning of the year. I have always heard my Crossfit buddies talk about this diet and I ‘ve noted that I didnt think I had the will power to give up my favorite foods. But then I reminded myself of a conversation I had with my boyfriend the other day. We were discussing Crossfit and whether or not it was an effective method for working out. I told him, “don’t knock it till you try it.” Well, the same stands true for me and Paleo, the “don’t knock it till you try it” mentality. So you know what??? I am!!! Here is a quick little video explaining what it is:

Paleo Challenge- What you need to know

Wish me luck!!! I promise to keep you guys posted once I start the challenge =) Before and After pics, Paleo Recipes etc…

    Quote of the Day

    2009 - 12.11

I saw this random quote posted on twitter and it caught my attention. I think it applies to me perfectly =)

“I may not have the key to success, but I know how to pick the lock.”
