Poor Men. I feel sorry for you. Women are fed all kinds of unattainable goals and characteristics about the men they should end up with from the time they are old enough to understand a fairy tale.
Growing up, my favorite fairy tale was Sleeping Beauty. The beautiful princess got to sleep while all of the chaos happened around her. Once the storm had passed, she was lucky enough to be woken up by the man of her dreams. WOW- how unrealistic is this???? Could you imagine how easy life would be if all you had to do was fall asleep to find your dream boat? In your dreams….. literally!
Let see if I were to write a realistic fairy tale to read to a five year old, how would it go??
Once upon a time, there lived a very beautiful College Graduate that had just moved to a new city (insert here). Princess had long beautiful red hair (thanks to Loreal hair color), tan skin (compliments of palm beach tan) and green eyes (depending on the contact color she wore that day). She had always done what her bipolar, irresponsible, yet loving parents had told her to do…. get good grades, eat your vegetables, be respectful, come home before curfew, maintain your chastity. blah blah blah She lived a very straight arrowed life because she desperately wanted to get out of her little town and go through a little rebellion.
Now being in a big city, and a new college she realizes she doesn’t know anyone. She goes through rush so that she can make a lot of friends. She also does this so she can party it up and meet a lot of hot guys. After selecting her sorority and being made over by her new found ‘sisters’, she is introduced to the frat guys. It takes about 2-3 tries before she meets her man. And you know what? He isn’t the hottest, the smartest or the richest guys she’s ever met…. but he is the most loving, attentive, and loyal man she’s ever met.
Since she gave up her chastity to frat guy #1 at a frat party where she downed too many jello shots, she doesn’t hesitate to sleep with this Prince Charming. After a few fun times, she ends up getting pregnant. Princess and her Prince decide to go to Vegas and get married. They move in together and both work to try and finish their college careers, while trying to support a little baby. All before they turn 21?!?!?! They now have a 40-50% chance of remaining married forever. Gotta love that divorce rate don’t ya think?
See… this story is much more believable and real than the Cinderella crap they read us as little girls. I bet if they read me this story when I was a baby, guys would have it a whole lot easier in the world. LOL
