    Rackspace 1st Annual 5K

    2011 - 05.23

This past Saturday started off as a humid, muggy and cloudy day…. but that weather sure didn’t stop 100+ Rackers and their families from attending the 1st Annual “Rackspace Friends and Family 5K.” When I got to the Castle parking lot I could see a ton of Rackers geared up in their running shorts, iPods, and Rackspace t-shirts ready to take in the run. Racker parents came ready with their racing strollers and all the kids were getting energized and pumped up as they anticipated the run! I have to say that it was so cute to see all of the little kids stretching and running around!

The whole goal of this event was to get Rackers and their families participating in a healthy activity while having some fun. I believe the event’s purpose achieved its success on that day! One of the best aspects of this run was the fact that the whole family could enjoy it. Lanham even brought his whole family to partake in the fun. How many other companies can say that about their CEO? The “friends and family” core value that we hold so dear as Rackers truly showed this weekend. Rackers encouraged each other during the race, volunteers handed out water throughout the course and everyone was cheering for their fellow runners, walkers, and joggers at the finish line. No one got left behind. That’s the beauty of Rackspace!

The Rackspace Wellness Committee did a fantastic job of putting this event together especially Tanya Ruyle, Ric Jimenez and Sugar Bear. I can’t wait till next year’s event! I hope to beat my time of 32 minutes and 17 seconds!

To all of the Hopeless Romantics

    Root Beer Floats

    2011 - 05.09

I have been trying very hard to get back in a health kick and work out routine these past few days. Last week I made it to the gym 3 times- which is not a bad start! Yesterday I made it out to a friends pool in order to take in the sun and catch up on my schoolwork while being poolside. I remember that having a tan helps to accentuate the muscles on my legs and abs. Unfortunately, there is no definition to be seen… just yet! I have 2 weeks to buckle down! NO CARBS ALLOWED- this will be my new mantra.

So,  with this new mindset you would think the diet part would get a little bit easier no? I don’t think so!!!! Today, 3 of my team members were celebrating birthdays. And being the good boss that I am, I gave the guys an option of cake or another type of sweet. They voted for ice-cream! So, as I scooped up the vanilla ice-cream and poured it in the root-beer filled cup- I couldn’t help but start to re analyze the reasons for why I am dieting. “LAKE SEASON IS AROUND THE CORNER” “BIKINIS” “DON’T DO IT, IT WILL GO STRAIGHT TO YOUR ASS”, etc… yup- I kept shouting that over and over in my head so that I would not give in…………….. and guess what? I didn’t :) But it was definitely hard to say no.

Instead of indulging in a delicious and cool vanilla root-beer float, I reminded myself of my hard workout I had on Saturday…

…… and how I should remain motivated so that I can fit in to last years bikinis!

19 days to go! Day one: Today’s breakfast consisted of egg whites seasoned with pepper. For lunch I had turkey meat and sausage with a side of corn and beans. For dinner, I look forward to some baked red fish.

    Rackspace 80′s Day!

    24 Days

    2011 - 05.03

Memorial Weekend is upon us again…. and this time I must admit that  I am not looking forward to it. I have deserted and traded in my Crossfit routines for Graduate School and studying, which means I am not bikini ready. I now have 24 days to get to where I want to be. Luckily, I have not gained too much weight from my post paleo days which should make this doable.

My problem areas right now are my legs and thighs. If I can get them a little more toned, I would be much happier! The other day I tried to motivate myself to get back in the gym. I went to Fitness 19 and ran 2 miles before starting the ‘Sophie-made’ WOD. I made it a simple benchmark so that I could track my progress before heading back to ACF.

It was a simple enough WOD- one that you can try at home. By simple, I mean that it does not require a lot of equipment to do, not that it won’t make you sweat!

    15 situps (chest to knees), 15 push press (10lb DBs), 15 farmers lunges (2x10lb DBs), 15 push-ups, 15 air-squats.

    Final time:

Ugh! Why did I ever stop working out?!?! Its so hard to get back into a routine once you have left it. Note to self- get back on it!
