    Workout Buddy

    2011 - 07.06

I have to say there is nothing better than having a workout partner around to motivate you! Luckily my friend Billie is that person for me :) She may look small too you but trust me she’s all muscle! Having that person there  forces you to go to the gym and give it your all. Its hard to slack when you have someone there watching and motivating you!

Yesterday we went to Fitness 19 (Yes, I overextended myself and Crossfit will have to wait) right after work. I was absolutely exhausted and sleep deprived from the night before. For some reason my congestion and headache started clearing up as I was getting to mile 1.

The treadmill I was using happened to me right in front of the window which meant the sun hit me directly and with full force. I was drenched by the end of my cardio warm up! The total of two miles went by quick but I looked like I ran 20 from the sweat dripping down my forehead. After that Billie and I went to the stretch area where we focused on abs, planks, push-ups and squats. My set went something like this: 12 pushups, 12 squats, 12 pushups, 12 squats, 100 situps… repeat.

After the cross training and ab workout, we decided to focus on legs. The regiment went 3 sets of 12 per machine, which totals 36 reps. I did leg press, calves, leg extension and this last one (name which I always forget). The four machines accounted for a total of 144 reps…

    Root Beer Floats

    2011 - 05.09

I have been trying very hard to get back in a health kick and work out routine these past few days. Last week I made it to the gym 3 times- which is not a bad start! Yesterday I made it out to a friends pool in order to take in the sun and catch up on my schoolwork while being poolside. I remember that having a tan helps to accentuate the muscles on my legs and abs. Unfortunately, there is no definition to be seen… just yet! I have 2 weeks to buckle down! NO CARBS ALLOWED- this will be my new mantra.

So,  with this new mindset you would think the diet part would get a little bit easier no? I don’t think so!!!! Today, 3 of my team members were celebrating birthdays. And being the good boss that I am, I gave the guys an option of cake or another type of sweet. They voted for ice-cream! So, as I scooped up the vanilla ice-cream and poured it in the root-beer filled cup- I couldn’t help but start to re analyze the reasons for why I am dieting. “LAKE SEASON IS AROUND THE CORNER” “BIKINIS” “DON’T DO IT, IT WILL GO STRAIGHT TO YOUR ASS”, etc… yup- I kept shouting that over and over in my head so that I would not give in…………….. and guess what? I didn’t :) But it was definitely hard to say no.

Instead of indulging in a delicious and cool vanilla root-beer float, I reminded myself of my hard workout I had on Saturday…

…… and how I should remain motivated so that I can fit in to last years bikinis!

19 days to go! Day one: Today’s breakfast consisted of egg whites seasoned with pepper. For lunch I had turkey meat and sausage with a side of corn and beans. For dinner, I look forward to some baked red fish.

    24 Days

    2011 - 05.03

Memorial Weekend is upon us again…. and this time I must admit that  I am not looking forward to it. I have deserted and traded in my Crossfit routines for Graduate School and studying, which means I am not bikini ready. I now have 24 days to get to where I want to be. Luckily, I have not gained too much weight from my post paleo days which should make this doable.

My problem areas right now are my legs and thighs. If I can get them a little more toned, I would be much happier! The other day I tried to motivate myself to get back in the gym. I went to Fitness 19 and ran 2 miles before starting the ‘Sophie-made’ WOD. I made it a simple benchmark so that I could track my progress before heading back to ACF.

It was a simple enough WOD- one that you can try at home. By simple, I mean that it does not require a lot of equipment to do, not that it won’t make you sweat!

    15 situps (chest to knees), 15 push press (10lb DBs), 15 farmers lunges (2x10lb DBs), 15 push-ups, 15 air-squats.

    Final time:

Ugh! Why did I ever stop working out?!?! Its so hard to get back into a routine once you have left it. Note to self- get back on it!

    Scuba Steve

    2011 - 01.18

This weekend was a fun one. I went to my first hunting trip out in Freer, Texas. First, I will start by saying that I, myself did not shoot a single living thing. I opted for hanging out in the ranch, driving the fun hunting cars, and drinking lots of wine and vodka :) .

I did however, shoot my first gun! I will have to write an additional post about that adventure once I download the photos. What I can say, is that I was super lazy and ate junk food the entire time. This whole trip, while relaxing threw me back onto lazy mode. It was very difficult for me to get up to work the next day, but I was at the office on time and ready to work. I convinced myself that if I missed Crossfit due to working late, that I could relax one more day before getting back into my gym routine. Surely enough, I got home around 6:45 (which is way too late for CF), but to my surprise my boyfriend Steve was dressed in workout clothes heading to the gym. He asked me to join him which was a first for me. The gym is my escape…. I go there to forget my present and to let out any frustrations. Not something I usually let a guy see.

Steve and I have been dating for 1 year and approximately 8 months, so I figure its time to venture into new territory and to work out with a boy. We started with Cardio. We ran side by side on the treadmills. I had chick rock music playing on my iPod. You know… Flyleaf, type of stuff. I mouthed the words to all my favorite songs while running at interval speeds. My highest speed was 6.5 and my lowest was 3.8. The highest incline I reached was 4.5. Although I only ran for 22 minutes, I definitely worked up a sweat and got to my goal of 2 miles.

After our Cardio, Steve and I went to work on our arms. Biceps, Triceps, Chest and Deltoids. We worked 3 machines, 3 sets of 10 a piece. We alternated sets… this is SOOOO new to me. I am used to going so fast during my workouts…. used to getting a cardio workout while lifting weights. I feel I get more out of my workouts when I do this… exhaustion shows me that I truly gave it my all. Instead I waited while Steve finished his reps so that I could start mine. The one thing I really did enjoy about this workout, was seeing my sexy boyfriend working out his muscles :) I snuck in a few pics on my iPhone when he wasn’t looking! What can I say… I am still smitten!

Yes ladies and gentlemen… he is MINE all MINE :)

    Little Billie

    2011 - 01.08

Saturday morning- the worst of Mountain Cedar so far. My goodness these allergies are absolutely brutal!!! I woke up a little late this morning. 9:10 to be exact, which means I missed the Alamo Crossfit morning class. Since I had taken two days off to recover, I definitely wanted to get a workout in today. My friend Billie, which I call little Billie due to her petite and lean frame, was kind enough to meet me at our neighborhood Fitness 19.

Today workout consisted of 45 minute cardio work- all intervals. I went from a 6.5 speed, to a 4.5 at a 9 level incline, then up to 7.0 speed at 2.0 incline, etc… I was definitely sweaty by the time I was done with that part of the workout. Due to the allergies, I kept my Kleenex tissues close by… there is nothing attractive about a girl with a boogery face :P

After Cardio, Billie and I stretched and worked on our abdominal area. Crunches, Obliques, and Planks.

    Here is Miss Billie:

After ABs, we focus on arms today. We worked 4 machines that focus on biceps, triceps, and shoulders. We did 3 round of 9 reps at each machine.

How do you like that big bulge of Kleenex in my sweatshirt??? I almost made a little joke…. “Is that a Kleenex in your pocket or are you just happy to see me??” LOL Stupid I know! Anywho… I am in a good mood! While not as intense as a usual Crossfit workout, I was proud of the fact that waking up late was not used as an excuse to skip the gym. Today marks the 4th workout of the year so far :) I still have my eye on the prize and hope to accomplish my New Years Resolutions! Big shout out to Billie for accompanying me today!!

    Still Taking Baby Steps

    2010 - 10.26

This weekend was a rough one for the diet.
Day 13: Brunch- Tilapia with mango Pico topping, Green Beans and Corn on the Cob. Snack- Frozen Yogurt with Blackberries and Strawberries. Lunch- Slice of Pizza, Dinner- Sushi Zushi- Strawberry and Godzilla rolls.

Day 14: Breakfast- Migas, Lunch: Tortilla Soup, no Dinner (but drank a Long Island Iced Tea)

Yesterday, I woke up to an upset stomach =( I think my diet has been very inconsistent which is whats is causing the recent stomach problems.

Day 15: Breakfast- Sausage and Eggs taco on Corn tortilla, Lunch: Lenny’s Sub (took of the top bread), Snack: MyFit Foods Turkey Spaghetti (small), Dinner: Small Protein Shake.

I titled this post baby steps, because yesterday I ran a few miles. Its been a long time since I get myself up to that stage and motivation, and this little diet stint has seemed to help me get there. I wish I could have run 6 miles, but in all honesty, it was too bug a leap so I conformed to 3.9. I started with a 2 min 30 sec warm up, then ran until I finished at the 3.26 mile marker.

I completed the last few minutes with a cool down which brought my cardio total to 3.9 miles in 45 minutes. Not the fastest runner in the world, but I really don’t care for speed. Mostly I care about completion!

I hope that I can get to a solid 8 mile run outside before November 14. If I do, I think I will go for the 1/2 marathon. Even if I power walk part of it, at least it would be a start! Yay!

    Legs, Butt and Calves

    2010 - 10.22

Yesterday I was tempted to skip the gym… simply because I came to my boyfriend on the couch and he wanted to chill and cuddle for a bit. What girl in her right mind would skip out on that?!?!?! Well, I cuddled for a bit, but forced myself to head out to the gym for a quick fix. I worked on  my legs by doing some leg press, squats and lunges. I did a few planks and crunches to work on the abdominal area as well. I finished with a quick 8 minute run and then ran back to my boyfriend so we could cuddle some more!

Day 11- Dinner: Beef Fajita meat seasoned with spices and Guacamole with pico de gallo made fresh by me =) No tortillas so technically I stuck to my Paleo!

Day 12- Breakfast: H-Town Breakfast from My Fit Foods (Egg whites, Turkey Bacon small portion), Lunch: CHEAT ALERT!!!!! 2 Chilli Dogs and small fries. I met my boyfriend for lunch at Weinershnitsel
