    4000 Rackers

    2011 - 12.10

Yesterday I had the pleasure of celebrating the welcoming of our 4000th Racker to Rackspace. It’s amazing to see how far our company has grown and it makes me proud to have been along for the journey these past six years. I appreciate every day I have been there and I hope to be around for the next 4000 Rackers to come!

    Warriors at Heart

    2011 - 09.12

With all of the remembrance going on this past weekend, in honor of the ten year anniversary of 9/11, we felt the desire to contribute in some way. We wanted to show our admiration and respect to all the lives lost on that sad day. One of our Team Leads, Stacy Adams, found the “Warriors at Heart” 5K run/walk taking place at McAllister Park. All of the proceeds from the race were going to the Wounded Warrior Project, which is a charity I am extremely passionate about. I was ‘in’ the second it was mentioned and by the time we sent out emails to our teams, we got 16 runners/walkers signed up and ready to race!

This past Saturday a group of Running Rackers (our team name) woke up at the crack of dawn in order to show their pride and support for the Wounded Warrior Project. It was a nice breezy morning in comparison to the heat wave we in San Antonio have become accustomed to. I grabbed a light jacket and a nice hot cup of coffee to keep me warm while my team started to set up our tent at 7am. It was amazing to see everyone’s smiling faces and excitement as we stretched and got prepared for the run. We had a few Rackers that were participating in their first EVER 5K! We tightened our shoelaces, stretched our muscles and walked towards the starting mark. The Running Racker team was easy to spot since we were all sporting our camouflage headbands with the word RAX placed right in the center. Our friends and family core value really showed throughout the race as Rackers ran side by side cheering their teammates on and our entire team stayed until the very last Racker had crossed the finish line.

It was a great feeling to hear your teammates cheer you on and scream your name as you were crossing the finish line. There was a definite sense of teamwork!

Not only was I proud to be an American, but I was proud to be a Racker that day. The amount of pride and happiness I felt was inexplicable.

I want to thank everyone who ran/walked/jogged that day. You made my day and I can’t wait to do it again!! I completed the run in 30 minutes and 10 seconds which kept me at a good 10 minute/mile pace. I am happy enough with that :)

    Dingle

    2011 - 02.10

Now, I am not sure why Rick decided to name yesterday’s WOD “Dingle”. Was it dingle for dingleberry? Eww I hope not! Anyways, yesterday’s WOD was a Fun one. It was a two parter starting with Max Push Press.

For the Max press we did 5-5-3-3-1-1. I was partnered up with Erica and she was awesome. Great motivation!! She and Coach Mel kept a good eye on my form the entire time. So it went like this: 5 reps at 45, 5 reps at 65, 3 reps at 75, 3 reps at 85, 1 rep at 90 and 1 rep at 95. I like I could have maxed out at 105, but I didn’t want to push it. Two days before the workout I my car was rear ended and I hurt my back.

The second part was a quick WOD with 5 RFT: 10 DB Push Press and 10 Bar swings (toe touch). The pictures look kind of funny! The first two rounds I really did touch my toes the whole time, but by Round 3 I had to modify half way. For some reason my hands and wrists were burning. I am not sure if it was because of the Max Push Press we did before, or simply because my hands are weak. Anyways, I didn’t put an Rx next to my name because I didn’t do the toe touches all the way through. I did however do the 20 lb dumbbells the whole workout :) I finished in 6 minutes and 34 seconds.

So far today is Day 11 of the Whole 30 Challenge. My team decided to go to Sushi Zushi for a lunch meeting. Since it was for work I had to go. Luckily for me, they have grilled chicken and mushroom skewers which is what i had for lunch. Day 11 is almost done, WOO HOO! Here’s a Shout out to all The Rackers that showed up for the Crossfit 101 class! GO RACKSPACE!

    BRRRR its cold in here!

    2011 - 02.03

My oh my! This cold front came at the most inopportune time. Just when we thought the winter was behind us, the coldest off all cold fronts stops by for a visit. Its supposed to snow in San Antonio tonight… like actual snow! This type of weather makes me want to curl up on my couch with some hot cocoa and have the fireplace burning. But that’s not possible…. no chocolate in paleo!

Yesterday we embraced the cold by a challenge that coach Rick posted on the Alamo CF Blog. We ran…. We ran outside… and we ran in 18 degree weather…Yup we sucked it up! I didn’t want to punk out simply because I knew that piece of our WOD coming in to the gym. Little did I know that we were having a 2 parter. Part 1 was Back Squat Max (12 minutes, work in teams) and Part 2 was “Backpack”: 20 DB Thrusters and 200m run outside AMRAP in 12 minutes.

Part 1: I know my previous PR for Back Squat was 135lbs. Since I’ve been out in a while, I was not trying to beat it. I did however want to match my old record. We started the first 3 reps at 65, the next 3 reps at 85, then the next reps at 105. Once we started our 1 rep max we tried 115, which I accomplished. Erica, Amy and Monica were in my group. We started running out of time for our max rep so we decided to up the weight to our possible 1 max rep. My attempt at 135 was unsuccessful the first time :( And sadly, I ran out of time before I could try again. So I ended with a 115lb max for the day… but I’m pretty darn sure I could’ve met my 135 goal. Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda, yea I know.. I sound like a brat :p

The second part of the WOD was “Back Pack”, as I mentioned earlier this WOD was for 20 DumbBell Thrusters and a 20 meter run outside. All ! can say, is thank god Frank let me borrow his wife’s gloves….. he saved my little hands from freezing. That run was brutal. I think i struggled more with that than the thrusters. I finished the WOD with 4 rounds completed.
    Part 2:

The best part of this workout was seeing the Crossfit 101 class coming in. I must clarify and mention that by “best’ I am being incredibly sarcastic…. you know why? I had 4 of my fellow Rackers attending this class and they got to see me snot covered, running out of breath and sweaty HAHA. I will say though, I am SOOOO proud of them for taking the initiative and going to class. I feel in part they motivated me to go that day.

Here are some pics of Nathan, Levi, Christine and Michael doing Squats Holds with their class.
